The Sound of Cicadas: Poetry Resolana 2027

Sound of Cicadas 2027 — The Work of Wonder

Featuring Barbara Rockman, with additional poets to be announced.

The third annual Sound of Cicadas turns its attention to “The Work of Wonder”—the role of attention, curiosity, and astonishment in the making of poems. What does it mean to remain open to wonder in a world that so often asks us to look away? How does a poet transform attention into language, and what can poetry help us notice that we might otherwise miss?

Through readings and conversation, our featured poets will explore wonder not simply as awe, but as a practice: a way of paying attention to the world, to one another, and to the possibilities of language.

Sound of Cicadas 2026 — Poetry as Infrastructure

Featuring New Mexico Poet Laureate Emeritus Levi Romero, Albuquerque Poet Laureate Emeritus Michelle Otero, Arizona Poet Laureate Laura Tohe, and award-winning spoken word poet and arts educator LeJuane “El’Ja” Bowens.

The second annual Sound of Cicadas brought four distinctive poetic voices to the Albuquerque Museum for readings and a roundtable conversation on “Poetry as Infrastructure,” bringing together poets whose work crosses cultures, communities, literary traditions, and approaches to performance. Following individual readings, the poets gathered for a conversation exploring poetry as a living art—how we make it, share it, and create connection through the work.
