Our Venues

This is where it all happens!

The Chicharra Poetry Slam Festival takes place in the heart of Albuquerque's bustling downtown and Nob Hill areas, not far from the University of New Mexico and some of Albuquerque's most notorious places to eat - some of which you have probably seen on Breaking Bad and other television series filmed here! You definitely should not miss the Dog house while you're here!

Close to the host hotel, you will also find Old Town. Old Town’s narrow streets and century-old adobe houses are home to New Mexican eateries serving enchiladas and sopaipilla pastries, and tiny artisan shops selling jewelry, rugs and pottery. Old Town Plaza is a charming spot overlooked by 18th-century San Felipe de Neri Church. Nearby, the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science has dinosaur skeletons, while the Albuquerque Museum displays Southwestern art.

Preliminary Venues

These are some of the main venues where preliminary bouts will occur. Note, these are subject to change, if something unexpected happens, but we will be sure you know where and when you need to be at a bout well in advance.

Finals Stage

The Hiland Theater!

The Hiland Theater was opened on April 20, 1950. Seating inside the auditorium was provided for 1,188 on a stadium plan, with a raised stepped section at the rear. There was a car park at the rear of the building which held 350 cars.

It closed as a movie theatre in the summer of 1995, and has now become a venue for live theater. The Chicharra Poetry Slam Festival Finals Stage will take place in Hiland Theater's 600 seat theater.

We want to express our sincere gratitude to Davey Rogulich for working to make this possible!
